Conservative Jon Gimble Enters Race to Succeed Birdwell

Trusted Conservative and Community Leader Launches Campaign for Texas Senate District 22

WACO, TX – Today, Jon Gimble, a lifelong conservative and current McLennan County District Clerk, announced his candidacy for Texas Senate District 22. With over two decades of service in local government, civic life, and the Texas State Guard, Gimble is launching a grassroots-driven campaign to continue the conservative legacy of retiring Senator Brian Birdwell.

“I want to thank Senator Birdwell for his years of service to Texas and his honorable military service to our country,” Gimble said. “He’s been a principled voice for our values, and I wish him and his family the very best in this next chapter.”

A Republican known for results-driven leadership, Gimble made history as the first Republican elected District Clerk in McLennan County. He currently serves on the Texas Judicial Council, appointed by Governor Greg Abbott, and has served as a commissioned officer in the Texas State Guard since 2010, including deployments during Operation Border Star, Hurricane Harvey, and the COVID-19 response.

“My career has been defined by service, whether in the county courthouse, on state assignments, or in our local communities,” Gimble said. “Texans want leaders who show up when it counts, who listen more than they lecture, and who are grounded in the values that built this state: faith, freedom, family, and a government that knows its limits.”

Gimble said encouragement to run came from across the district, from grassroots conservatives to local leaders. “People are paying attention,” he said. “They don’t want someone handed the job. They want someone who understands this district, has been tested, and will fight for them from day one.”

Gimble’s campaign will focus on securing the border, defending life and the Second Amendment, cutting property taxes, supporting Texas families, and pushing back against woke ideology.

A graduate of Crawford High School, Gimble earned degrees from McLennan Community College and Tarleton State University. He currently serves as President of the McLennan County Republican Club, is a lifetime member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas, and sits on the board of the Waco Symphony Orchestra. His past civic leadership includes roles with the Waco Kiwanis Club, Waco Performing Arts Alliance, and Waco Young Professionals. Jon and his wife, Penny Lea Gimble, a professional musician, live in McLennan County and are active members of Harris Creek Baptist Church.
